Having a child is often a blessing to many women. It was certainly a dream for Rita, who recently gave birth to her first child. Unfortunately, giving birth at the age of 40 carries with it a lot of health risks.
Rita initally planned to give birth via normal means at the hospital. However, her membrane ruptured prematurely and Rita herself was suffering from anemic condition. Due to this, her baby needed be born via a Caesarean section to avoid infection risks to the baby. This was a huge unplanned expense for Rita's family.
Rita and her husband's unstable incomes as a street food vendor and a small merchant was just enough to cover their daily meal necessities. Rita does not have BPJS (Indonesian national health care insurance) as she is unable to pay the membership fees, therefore she needed for pay for the costly Caesarean section operation. Her family is having difficulties making this payment.
