Ikhsan, a child from Bengkulu, experienced a very heartbreaking condition. He is a patient who has long been treated in the perinatal intensive care unit (PICU), which is for 5 months. Ikhsan has fever, seizures and decreased consciousness. This child born in Bengkulu was referred to a central hospital in Jakarta for evaluation of congenital toxoplasmosis. Then, a CT scan was performed on Ikhsan and the results showed that there was calcification in his brain. Ikhsan was diagnosed with encephalopathy. Encephalopathy is a term that means brain disorder or disease. This term not only refers to one disease, but describes various brain dysfunctions. Coverage of encephalopathy is also very broad, can be a temporary, recurrent, or even permanent brain damage.
One day, this 2-year-old boy had severe shortness of breath, tended to sleep often and was difficult to wake up. Fever and cough with phlegm were also happening. Ikhsan had to be hospitalized again. During hospitalization, he was examined to see the tracheal airway patency, then the presence of granulation tissue that covers the lumen is more than 50% was discovered which interfering with Ikhsan's breathing. Ikhsan needs a ventilator machine in order to be able to breathe normally.
Therefore, the doctor suggested that Ikhsan use a transport ventilator in the form of a portable BiPAP machine, to meet his oxygen needs. Because he also suffers from chronic lung disease, Ikhsan also needs a ventilator machine to breathe at home. The price of the home ventilator needed reaches tens of millions of rupiah. Ikhsan's father no longer works because he often absence to take Ikhsan to get treatment in Jakarta, until finally he is fired. Recently, the father only works uncertain jobs, while Ikhsan's mother does not work and has no income.
