Bima, this 5-year-old boy looks so sad. He is not as happy as usual children. It is not shocking since Bima was indeed diagnosed with various serious diseases since childhood. The child who lives in Jakarta are born with down syndrome, suffer from congenital hypothyroidism, sensory neural hearing loss, gastroesophageal reflux disease, experience Global Development Delay and have a history of malnutrition.
Congenital hypothyroidism is a dysfunction of the thyroid gland that affects the baby from birth. These disorders affect the production of the thyroxine hormone, which is needed for growth, brain development and body metabolism. Not surprisingly, Bima also experienced developmental delays. At the age of 5 years, he has not been able to run well. The sensory neural hearing loss he suffered was the loss or damage of nerve cells (hair cells) in the cochlea (part of the ear) and is usually permanent.
Because of GERD's disease suffered by Bima, he often experiences a recurrent chronic cough. This is caused by acid from the stomach that flows back (reflux) into the esophagus (food channel). This reflux irritates, and can sometimes damage the lining of the esophagus. Bima can only eat using a hose or Nasogastric Tube (NGT). The malnutrition condition also requires this boy to consume milk that is high in nutrients.
The price of milk needed by Bima is very expensive for his parents because the father no longer works. His mother was busy working on the household everyday and taking care of Bima, so they did not have certain income. If Bima doesn't get milk, his condition will certainly get worse, considering he can only eat using a hose. Besides milk, he also needs orthopedic shoes to walk.
Let's help Bima!
